The joys of parenting are many, from watching your kids grow their first teeth, say their first words, and make their first steps to sending them off to school for the first time. But parenting also means doing the hard and sometimes tiresome work on their behalf. One example is cleaning after them so they can continue on their carefree journey of discovery and growth.
Few parents ever forget seeing their toddlers make their room for the first time. However, you’ll have to plod away on their behalf until that day arrives. In today’s post, we partner with thorough house cleaning professionals to sketch out a checklist that will help you clean your toddler’s room with minimum effort and time spent. Print this list, pin it on the fridge or their wardrobe door, and you’ll have it handy every time you need to tackle their room.
How do you clean a kid’s bedroom?
With today’s hectic lifestyle, time is at a premium and every little trick that can help us save time is precious. No matter how scary your children’s room looks, you’d be surprised how effective you can be with a step-by-step approach. Just follow these simple steps and everything will slowly start falling back into place.
1. Pick up the stuff
In the best of times, kids are a bundle of energy that jumps from one place to the next. The downside to this is that you constantly have to keep putting away their clothes, playthings, and all the other stuff they leave lying around the house. Before you start cleaning, you’ll have to return everything in its place so things won’t get in your way while you’re tidying up.
2. Use the opportunity to declutter
Since you’re already handling their stuff, you may as well seize the chance to go through their belongings and throw away the things that your toddler has outgrown, doesn’t use anymore, or is just worn out. This mostly applies to clothes but you can also do this with toys and other knick-knacks lying around the floor or gathering dust on the shelves.
3. Whip out the vacuum
With all the stuff returned to its designated place, you have a free passage to drive the vacuum through the room. Make sure to go through every corner of their room, paying special attention to areas such as under the table and near the bed to get all the crumbs and debris strewn around the floor.
4. Time to clean & wipe
Mix a few drops of gentle cleaning fluid with warm water to get a soapy solution for cleaning various surfaces. Wipe clean their table, chairs, nightstand, bed frame, and outside of the closet. Use a microfiber cloth and some alcohol to clean doorknobs, handles, and drawer pulls they touch daily. Wipe the mirror and windows with a glass cleaner and use a soft cloth or newspapers to shine up your glass items.
5. Wet mop to top it off
After wiping, cleaning, and vacuuming the hard part, you should use a damp mop to remove any leftover dirt and microorganisms from the flooring. Don’t use abrasive or harsh chemicals that can linger long after the cleaning and pollute your toddler’s living environment.
6. Make the bed
Once you’ve eliminated the dirt and clutter from the floors and quickly gone through their wardrobe, the next thing on the menu is the bed. Make sure to check if the sheets are smelly and need changing over. Put in new linen, fluff the pillows, and tidy up the bed before moving on to the final step.
7. Let the air & sunshine in
When everything is done and dusted, it’s time to open the windows and let the fresh air in. Always keep your kid’s room well-ventilated and make sure they get plenty of sunlight during the day. Fresh air and daylight are important sources of natural nourishment that improve kids’ moods and help them blossom.
A neat and organized environment is important for children’s physical health, emotional well-being, and social development. Until they are old enough to start learning about the importance of cleanliness, you’ll have to do it for them or find a reliable team of house cleaning specialists you can entrust with this important task.
