Starting with carpets, you must consider different colors and designs that will match your home decor, as well as the functionality of each room.

    1. For halls, stairs, and landings, you’ll need a hardwearing carpet that can handle the regular foot traffic such places are used to – think of these connecting spaces as the highways of the house.

For them, you must try denser carpets that can be cleaned thoroughly with bleach. These are busy areas of your home, so you can also try to twist pile carpets with a strong underlay, as this will be great for durability plus comfort.

Let’s talk about stairs. You can’t compromise on grip on the stairs, so the staircase has to be made safe first, and then, of course, in order of priorities, attractive. You can pick runners that improve traction and are of good weight and thickness and within that category go for different colors and patterns.

    2. Let’s move onto the next highway in the house: through lounges.

This is where you need consistency; dense file twists or saxonies are strong for everyday use, and you can select bold or solid colors to make your room look more spacious.

    3. Bedrooms are where you relax; this is where you are yourself. While major decor decisions do come into play when designing a bedroom, functionality cannot take a back seat.

Your carpets cannot be slippery or too thin (unless that’s more comfy for you). They must also be soft so your feet can feel relaxed, as you may be barefoot in these areas.

They must also be deep enough for your toes to sink in, such as the ultra-soft Saxony or a plush pile carpet.

    4. Lounges are places where the entire family can be themselves. You’re not expecting guests in these corners, but rather all occupants to spend the most time here in their element. Low-maintenance and durable carpets trump other options for this space.

    5. Playrooms for kids are where some serious games go down. Paint, crayons, and other crafts take center stage, and things can get messy.

For such spaces, you need simple, stain-proof carpets. Medium-weight twist carpets, for example, are durable and comfortable enough.

This is where kids let loose and play with their toys—having carpets here will soften their falls and injuries.

    VINYL AND LAMINATE FLOORING

Moving on to vinyl and laminate flooring, we know some of the spaces in our homes require heavy maintenance, and carpets are not enough.

Vinyl and laminate flooring do a better job than carpets in kitchens, conservatories, utility rooms, etc. Yet some things should be taken into account when choosing between vinyl and laminate flooring.

Vinyl flooring: it’s waterproof and amazing for spaces where spills are more likely. Very easy to maintain, this flooring has no limits when it comes to design.

Laminate flooring: this is perfect for high-traffic areas. The style resembles natural wood but it is more resistant than that option. It’s also better than a carpet in dry basements.

Just bear in mind that vinyl is better for places where you expect moisture, and even though laminate resembles hardwood floors, you can’t sand it to fix damage. You can always put carpet over the surfaces as focal points to give some dynamism to a space.

When making a final decision, find a balance between the purpose that your room is supposed to fulfill and the style and decor that you want to achieve from a flooring choice.

Urmston Carpets provides various flooring options, including laminate and vinyl, along with over 1000 carpet rolls. Located near the Trafford Centre, they offer free fitting and delivery services.
